Wing It Bodly
Like most people I will admit that I sometimes suffer from imposter syndrome. I forget my achievements and get scared that I would be found out. However, I have recently learned something that has recently liberated me.
When I get calls from environmental science graduates who are looking for a job I always tell them one thing that I wish someone had told before I started working because it would have saved me alot of headaches and feeling like I didn’t deserve the position I had. I tell them that you will not know everything and you don’t need to because is invthe work environment most people are winging it so there is nothing to worry about.
When I first started at my current job it was my first permanent job after school and because it was a new mine I had to learn alot on my own and sometimes I felt like I would come short of tasks (I think it is all in my head). I would stress that I was not doing enough, I felt that I needed to be doing more but didn’t really know what that “more” was. I always thought others knew what they were doing. Those thoughts really chipped on my confidence until I realized one thing. You don’t need to know it all, there was no way I would know everything in the Environmental field and I believe there isn’t one person on earth who knows it all even the successful people in their field. What made them successful I believe is a combination of boldness and just winging it.
