The past week has been quite chilly around here (Tsumeb, Namibia). It is winter in the Southern Hemisphere but one just remembers the heat more than the cold weather. In school we were taught that there are 4 seasons: summer, winter, spring and autumn but we really just have two defined seasons winter and summer. The summers are usually extremely hot and winter usually consists of a week of temperatures less then 20 degrees, like the past week. So it is officially winter.
While taking a walk with my sister she mentioned something I knew but never really thought about. She expressed how she loves winter, I found that strange because it has been uncomfortably cold. So I asked her why, she went on to say that winter is a reminder that all things have a season and they come to an end eventually…… Soon it will become warmer and all the uncomfortable cold nights will be forgotten. How easy we forget that the dark times we are facing is just a season that will come to and end and the warmth will engulf you soon.
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. – Anne Bradstreet
